Doherty Gardens

This three-acre stroll garden is filled with surprises, from the intricate designs to the unusual plant palette. Created by Bill Crews and Patrick Doherty, gardening enthusiasts who designed each part of the landscape, it showcases many plants not often seen in Natchez. A magnificent six-foot-tall Agave Americana is one of the showplace plants in the cacti and succulent garden. A collection of Tillandsia bromeliads is displayed on a front patio. A dwarf conifer collection is a major element of the front landscape, accented by numerous flowering and foliage plants. The walking path winds past a shade garden filled with hostas and small parterres surrounded by naturalistic plantings. Trees include Japanese maples, an allee of flowering fruit trees, an ancient tulip poplar, and  numerous varieties of modern disease-resistance crape myrtles. More notable plants include several varieties of palm trees hardy to this area, including the rare blue Brahea Armata.
